basket of apples

When the weather finally cools off in the south, I’m ready to put the ‘ol crock pot to regular use again for, among other things, baked apples. I love seeing the beautiful selection of apples at the grocery store this time of year.

This morning we had buttered toast with baked apples. So easy and very yummy. It can be a side dish, dessert, or breakfast. Here’s how I make it.

The night before, I core and quarter about 6 Granny Smith apples (or other baking variety) and put them in the crock pot. Mix in some raisins. Drizzle a little honey on top and sprinkle in some cinnamon. Add a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water. Cook on low. In the morning, dish up into bowls with a pat of butter and some grated sharp cheddar cheese on top. Easy as pie… and alomst as yummy! – milkmaid
