for now, the only thing we're growing on this farm is kids - not the goat variety

Rosebud’s Eyes

infant eyes

Rosebud’s eyes have been slowly changing over the last few months. At one time I thought they would be blue like those of her namesake. But they’ve changed…and maybe they’re still changing. There is a little brown in them now around the pupil. The rest of the iris is greenish-gray.

Uncle D took this fun shot while Rosebud was clinging to a kitchen chair after having pulled up on it. See her finger tips turning white?

A Day out with Uncle D

Today Carman & Sudoku spent a chunk of the day with their Uncle D. When that happens, they never know where they might end up. Today, it was on a 50 minute excursion on a steam train that went through a 1000 foot long tunnel that had been constructed shortly after the War Between the States. Here you’ll find some pictures of their time away from the house. Continue reading

Winter Solstice 2007

barefooted on trampoline

Here we are on the shortest day of the year. It’s gray and cool, though not really cold. Carman (in his bare feet!) has enjoyed wrestling on the trampoline with his buddy down the street. Sudoku shot this picture of him. You can see our makeshift soccer goal to the right. Continue reading

Christmas Pageant

Last week, Carman & Sudoku had a little Christmas pageant with some fellow homeschoolers. The pageant is organized by a busy mom of 8, and she always does a great job. The kids learn the songs and practice their scripture verses on their own at home. On the day of the performance, Continue reading

Teeth and Pulling Up

7 month old pulling up

At 7 months, Rosebud’s 2 bottom teeth sprouted within 3 days of each other.

Now, at 7 1/2 months, she has started pulling up. Today she pulled up to a standing position. Just a few days ago, she pulled up to a kneeling position. That’s when we finally moved her from the Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper to the Pack-N-Play. (I loved using the Co-Sleeper, but it is no place for a babe who’s pulling up.) Continue reading

Sewing Sudoku’s Skirt

christmas appliqued turtleneck

It has been a LONG time since I have done any sewing other than mending or minor alterations. But last week, I decided to make a skirt for Sudoku. I wanted to make something that would go with a cute Christmas turtleneck shirt that my mom appliqued for her. I was hoping to find a green corduroy to use, but settled for a medium weight cotton with embroidered polka dots (the same color as the material) that will be appropriate for most of the year here in the south.

My sewing skills being rather cold, I made a few amateur mistakes that, thankfully, didn’t cost much more than time. When cutting the material, Continue reading
