for now, the only thing we're growing on this farm is kids - not the goat variety

Garbage Day

Did you watch the garbage truck when you were a kid? I did. My brothers too. We’d run to the picture window and watch the men hanging on the back of the truck. They looked so nimble hopping off and on; it seemed like a daring and dangerous job. Riding on the back of the trash truck was the dream job of one of my brothers.

Of course, the new-fangled trucks require only one operator, and if you don’t have a new-fangled trash can, they’ll skip over your house. But even with losing the back-riding dare-devils, the trash-gathering machinery has maintained its appeal.

My kids like to watch the trash truck. And so do the neighbor kids. I caught these pictures of them late last week.

That is so funny! It looks posed, but I know from your post that it is not. Good work catching the moment.

Oh. It is a bit posed. The first shot I got was not. Then they got up to watch the truck as it went down the other side of the road. “Wait! I was getting a picture. Sit back down!” I said. So they quickly reassembled. I think it’s funny how they all had their legs tucked up.

There is a leader in the little group who likes things to be orderly and who the others gladly follow…usually. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had something to do with how they are positioned, smallest to biggest.

Oh, that’s a great shot! The story behind it is so funny too. Those children are so precious! Are all five yours, Bethany?

    Hi Marg,
I have 4. But 2 of the 5 in these pictures are not mine. The 2 blonds in the middle are the sweet kids from across the street. My youngest was with me when I was taking the pictures.

Thanks for stopping by. And thanks so much for the recent chicken dressing tips on your blog!

That is a great picture! My kids are the same way, they hear the truck and drop their breakfast spoons! Jmurrs is the ringleader of this but when we lived in Philly it was the others and we sat on our stoop and waved to the garbage men!
